BIGMallrat's Editorial Review
Tanforan Mall in San Bruno opened to large crowds on
October 7, 2005. Replacing the old Tanforan Park,
this new mall is clearly a hit. Outstanding architectural elements
and tasteful lighting, this mall is simply stunning.
Atmosphere
Tanforan mall is chic; beautifully designed and decorated.
The architects, Altoon
+ Porter, are known for other famous mall renovations, including
Las Vegas' The Fashion Show mall. The ceiling is stunning, with the
latest in lighting design. At night, it glows a beautiful blue. Careful
attention was given to detail, including fixtures and neutral flooring.
The mall appears upscale and demands attention. Only Westfield
Valley Fair Mall and Westfield
Oakridge Mall could compare in terms of design.
Stores
We found many mid-end shops, but a disproportionate
number of stores geared towards teenagers. Although like any new
mall, we expect it will mature and better reflect the area over time.
A Century Theatres is now open and accessible
from the second level of the food court.
Food
A gorgeous two-story food court can be found near
the BART entrance. You'll find an excellent selection of eateries
with food from around the world.
Parking
Tanforan mall sits on a small site.
However, plenty of parking garages are available, but all in the
back (near Target). The El Camino Real side of the mall is sometimes
congested and parking is difficult. For that reason we recommend
the garage by Target.
Location
Tanforan mall is conveniently located
of I-380 in San Bruno CA. Exit north on El Camino Real and the mall
is on your right.
From BART, the mall is just steps away from the
San Bruno station.
