BIGMallrat's Editorial Review
Carmel
Plaza recently renovated and now features
an elegant Spanish Colonial Revival architecture; very fitting for
the area. It's situated in the exclusive enclave of Carmel-By-The-Sea,
which is considered one of California's top tourist attractions and
a playground for the wealthy.
Stores
The shops in Carmel Plaza certainly reflect the
wealthy surroundings. After loosing their key anchor, Saks Fifth
Avenue, occupancy was severely affected. However, Anthropologie and
the posh haberdashery, Wilkes-Bashford, has filled
much of the space vacated by Saks.
Now, occupancy is increasing and you'll find enough upscale luxury
retailers, unique to the region, to keep you busy.
Soon to open are
Tumi, the first in the region, and Fresno-based Posh, a purveyor
of high-end women's fashion.
Dog Friendly
This shopping center is dog friendly.
They even included an exclusive dog drinking fountain, called "The
Fountain of Woof."
Parking
The mall has a small underground garage with an
entrance off Mission Street, but it's not free. However, some retailers
do offer validation. During the high season, traffic can be unbearable
and parking is practically nonexistent. Plan on circling to find
a spot. In general, parking far away is worth
the walk since the town is full of charm and worth exploring on
foot. Off-season parking and traffic is manageable and generally
easy.
Location
Carmel Plaza is located of Hwy 1 at Ocean in downtown
Carmel-By-The-Sea. After a short drive west, the mall is located
on the left.
