BIGMallrat's Editorial Review
The Fremont Hub Shopping Center has been a local
landmark since 1961. This center seems to be more of a power-center
than conventional mall, reflecting a greater trend in retailing.
More and more big box stores have moved in and provide enough reasons
to visit.
Stores
Anchor stores include Target, Cost Plus World
Market, Marshalls, Ross Dress for Less, Bed Bath & Beyond, Safeway,
Borders, Trader Joe's, and Michaels.
Regrettably, with the addition of big-box stores,
the interior walkway (the "Courtyard") looses its importance. Do
not be surprised if some shops with exterior access have locked their
doors on the Courtyard side. However, this design allows smart shoppers
to
park
once and
walk to multiple
stores
with
ease.
Atmosphere
Although the landscaping is pleasing in places,
it's inconsistent. The middle walkway is sparsely planted, devoid
of mall art, and comfortable seating is noticeable absent. We also
noticed missing awnings, lights not on
at
night,
and
a perplexing
parking
lot.
The saving grace is a fantastic child-friendly
fountain near Bed Bath & Beyond. Jets of water randomly squirt from
the ground. Kids love it!
Parking
Parking can be a little tricky, but you'll find
a spot fairly quickly. Avoid the temptation to simply drive from
store to store. Save gas, park once, and walk.
Location
The Hub is located on Mowry Avenue at
Fremont Boulevard. From Mowry, it's easy to pass this center by if
you are focused on the road, so keep an eye out for it.
In summary
Although not a cutting-edge mall, the Hub features
a fairly pleasing landscaping, up-to-date colors,
and more than a few desirable stores to make it worth visiting over
and over.
