Country Club Plaza Mall is somewhat unknown in
the Sacramento region, but it offers a good selection of merchants
and anchor stores, all in an enclosed shopping center.
Atmosphere
Prior to the renovation, Country Club Plaza Mall
was looking a little tired. However, the owners of this shopping
center did what you should in that case: remodel. The interior
displays a contemporary architecture, complete with exposed
ceilings,
artistic mobiles, polished concrete flooring, and a muted-orange
color scheme. The outside of the center appears almost cartoonish
in nature, with bright purples,
browns, and teals. The only evidence of this center's age is the
anchor stores, which display classic, if not dated, department
store architecture. Retail aficionados will
recognize the Macy's building in the quintessential Weinstock's
style.
Occupancy
The interior
of the mall has a number of vacancies, The Sacramento Business Journal
recently report the owner is having trouble finding retailers
and finding a niche.
Stores
Country Club Plaza Mall features Macy's as an
anchor, plus Off Broadway, Sport Chalet, Ross, and Bed Bath & Beyond.
You can also find a number of national retailers, such as American
Eagle Outfitters, and some local ones, such as Pro Beauty Supply.
The old Gottschalks anchor current sits empty.
Food
The center of the mall is billed as the food court
and you'll find plenty of tables and chairs. For quick eats, there
is Subway, Pretzel Time, and others. For sit-down, there is Strings
Italian Cafe, Woody's Bar and Grill, and Hometown Buffet.
Parking
Parking is fairly easy, even on a weekend, although
the Watt Avenue side can get crowded. However, plenty of parking
can be found in the back of the center.
Location
Country Club Plaza Mall is located on Watt Avenue
at Butano Drive. Just three miles north from Hwy 50.
In summary
Although this shopping center isn't the most popular
in town and it's dwarfed by nearby Arden Fair, it still proves to
be a nice place to shop. Having two good department stores in one
easy to maneuver mall is always a winner.
