BIGMallrat's Editorial Review
Broadway Plaza is a unique and upscale open-air
shopping center in Walnut Creek. Because it has a street with traffic
running down the center, it's more like the downtown look many newer
malls are striving to copy. The parallel walkway, "Broadway
Lane," also offers a traditional mall-like atmosphere. Every
corner of this center is adorned with award-winning landscaping,
which makes it enjoyable to stroll and people-watch.
Stores
You will find an excellent collection of mid-to-high
end shops. A local favorite is David M. Brian, a large fine gift
shop unlike no other. Anchor stores include an excellent Nordstrom
and remodeled Macy's.
Broadway Plaza is such a draw that many complementary
developments have sprung up around the mall, all within a short walking
distance. And we are talking big names, like Pottery Barn, Restoration
Hardware, and Tiffany's. It feels as if Broadway Plaza has gently
incorporated itself into downtown Walnut Creek.
Food
Dowtown Walnut Creek is a cornicopia of good restaurants.
Here, you'll find P.
F. Chang,
California
Pizza Kitchen,
and Stanford's
Restaurant
and
Bar, among others.
Parking
Many locals consider this the place to shop. For
that reason, parking can be a bear. Some consider breaking vehicle
code a viable alternative far too often. Even on the slowest of days
there typically is a line or competition for parking spaces. During
the holidays, you ought to get there very early or very late, otherwise,
you may find Sunvalley Shopping
Center a better bet.
Location
Broadway Plaza is located in downtown Walnut Creek,
California. For that reason, the center may be difficult to locate
the first time. However, the large Nordstrom or bright red Macy's
can be used as a beacon to find it. There are hordes of people and
limited parking, but don't give up too easily.
Expansion plans
According to the Macerich corporate Web site,
plans are underway to expand the plaza with another department store
and 150,000 square feet of specialty stores.
