Guide to Sunrise Mall

Sunrise Mall is one of the original places to shop in Sacramento and hasn't lost any of its luster.

Atmosphere

A remodeling rid the interior of its hideous purple and other 70s colors. Now tasteful colors and beautiful arches adorn the ceilings. Skylights lighten up the interior and it feels airy. You can see that they actually cut out pieces of the original floor and inlayed an updated tile.

Stores

The stores are mostly what you'd find in any middle-of-the-road shopping center, but the Macy's here are close to the best in suburban Sacramento. The United Artists cinema is a great place to leave the kids while you shop.

Food

A new food court can be found between JC Penney and Macy's Women's. Outisde the mall you'll find Red Robin and the Elephant Bar.

Parking

Although we visited at the height of the Christmas season, we found plenty of parking between Sears and Macy's Men's.

Location

Sunrise Mall is located in Citrus Heights, just outside Sacramento. However, the major downfall of this shopping center is its location. Sunrise Boulevard better serves as a parking lot than a thoroughfare. We waited seven minutes alone to pass the intersection at Fair Oaks. I suppose a seasoned Sacramento native would know the less-congested route, but after a half an hour on the boulevard, we about gave up and turned around. Luckily, the mall was worth the hassle.
