BIGMallrat's Editorial Review
Westfield Solano mall in Fairfield is a large enclosed shopping center serving
the Fairfield, Vacaville, and Napa areas.
Westfield continues to invest in this center through
a series of renovations to elevate your shopping experience. Previously
thought of as bland or dull, you'll now find a children's play
area, food court, up-to-date styling and retailers unique to the
area.
Atmosphere
The interior is light and bright. Plenty of lighting,
mostly through artificial means. The ceiling boasts a number of triangular
faux skylights that give the appearance of real sunlight long after
the sun has set. During the day, the thin stretch of real skylights
allow natural light in.
Up to
6 kinds of flooring can now be found in a patchwork pattern throughout
the shopping center.
A fantastic carousel near Sears is a family favorite.
Entry points to Solano mall are themed: flight,
fairgrounds, markets, and vineyards. A placard set into the ground
in front of each of the doors explains the
theme and how it ties in with the area.
Stores
The quality of the stores at Solano mall was
mid-range, with a smattering of upper-range and a number of services.
You'll find mostly fashion retailers, with a fair
number of gift and jewelry stores. Also, perhaps the only tattoo
parlor in an enclosed shopping center.
An old Sears anchor on the western
side was split, being replaced with the popular Edwards Cinema on
the upper level and Best Buy on the lower level. Sears moved to the
space vacated by Emporium-Capwell in the early 90s.
Food
A modern food court on the upper level near JC
Penney opened in 2011. You'll find plenty of seating and stunning
views out the panoramic windows. Outside the food court entrance
you'll find additional patio seating to take advantage of the
balmy summer evenings.
Other sit-down restaurants, such as Applebees,
are generally grouped around the cinema.
Parking
Ample free parking is available.
However, near the cinema, it can get crowded.
Location
Westfield Solano mall is conveniently located
in Fairfield, east of the congested I-80 at Travis Boulevard. Look
for the big sign.
